Validate edge01 Commissioning Runbook

Summary

Validated the edge01 commissioning documentation against the deployed Abbey Root infrastructure services appliance.

The review confirmed that the commissioning document accurately describes the current role of edge01, including its hardware identity, Ansible integration, and Technitium DNS service.

The validation process identified two operational details that were missing from the original documentation and updated the commissioning record accordingly.

Accomplishments

• Verified edge01 host information:
  • Debian 13.6
  • IP address 192.168.1.221
  • Ansible-managed edge_services host
• Confirmed Technitium DNS is running successfully.
• Verified:
  • Forward DNS resolution
  • Reverse DNS resolution
  • External DNS forwarding
• Documented Technitium DNS deployment as a native systemd-managed service.
• Documented that Ansible commands should be executed from the Ansible project directory.

Lessons Learned

• A commissioning document becomes more valuable when validated against the running system rather than only written from design assumptions.
• Small operational details, such as service ownership and command execution context, are important parts of a reusable runbook.
• The distinction between architecture documentation and deployment history helps keep Abbey documentation organized.
